Strep Throat

Strep throat is a sore throat that is caused by bacteria and, therefore, can be treated with antibiotics. This type of sore throat is most common in children ages 5 to 15, but it can occur in people of any age.

•    Fever
•    Chills
•    Red sore throat, sometimes with white patches
•    Pain when swallowing
•    Swollen, tender neck glands

And, sometimes:

•    Loss of appetite
•    Headache
•    Nausea
•    General ill feeling

At Urgent Care – Wilton, we can diagnose strep throat within minutes with a rapid strep test and, if necessary, prescribe antibiotics. Most patients start to feel better—and are no longer contagious—in 24 to 48 hours. To make sure the strep infection does not come back, it’s important to take all the antibiotics that we prescribe.

Remember: For serious and life-threatening injuries or illnesses, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
